VIP PBX Appliances
The VIP PBX solution provides unparalleled survivability in case of server failures, LAN, and WAN failures. This is accomplished by deploying VIP PBX Appliances (media gateways) at each district location. Reliability considerations require protection and backup at remote sites to ensure continued operations in the event of a Wide Area Network (WAN) failure to the remote sites or a catastrophic failure at the Data Center running the VIP PBX applications.
The media gateways provide all school sites with access to the PSTN through their IP phones in the event of a WAN failure. They are available in both analog and digital versions to support traditional POTS business lines or voice PRI circuits.

The analog VoIP gateways offer a flexible choice of functions and configurations. When used with analog phones, the FXS version of the media gateway supports most of the IP Telephony Module telephony features for IP phones, including message waiting indication via a stuttered dial tone. The FXO version of the media gateway can be used both for PSTN connections, and for integrating legacy analog PBXs as part of a migration plan.
The digital media gateways provide all the necessary functions and protocol support for seamlessly handling voice calls between the traditional circuit switched networks and the IP network. As part of a converged communications solution, they enable companies to reduce their PSTN costs by implementing the least-cost routing capabilities of the IP Telephony Module-to minimize long distance call charges, calls can be routed to the most cost-effective gateway.
