School MATRIX® Data Zone
|
The School MATRIX Data Zone integrates the many different types of school applications and data systems needed to run a school enterprise. These applications may come from many different sources or vendors; have diverse architectures and data schemas, which create islands of information that are difficult to use and maintain.

The School MATRIX Data Zone provides a means to build an environment that connects these diverse applications and to integrate their data. These integrated data then become available to the applications and to the people who run or are served by them. Access to these data provides unparalleled opportunities for research using clusters of diverse data generated from various applications.
The School MATRIX Data Zone technology is built on scalable
and Open Source J2EE middleware. School MATRIX Data
Zone creates a common database environment that shares
legacy data with third-party application databases.
This product provides a unique solution to a complex
data integration problem that has historically challenged
the K-12 market and impeded technology adoption.
The underlying technology for the School MATRIX Data
Zone is the MATRIX Operational Data Store (MODS), a
specially constructed database designed to "snapshot"
current data from both legacy back-office and new generation
front-office classroom systems.
While the School MATRIX Data Zone can be thought of "simply" as middleware, it is a powerful industry catalyst. The K-12 educational market has historically been slow to adopt new technology. While the need for enterprise management has been as critical in the education sector as it is in other businesses, budget constraints and limited IT capabilities have made the barriers insurmountable. VIP Tone eliminates these traditional barriers.
The School MATRIX Data Zone inter-connects existing legacy applications and makes it possible to deploy new data intensive educational applications, which would otherwise be too costly to implement, by sharing data between these new applications and the existing legacy applications. Additionally, it enables educators to see and use these integrated data through web-based data viewing technology.
School MATRIX Data Zone Viewer. By importing data from any database to the Data Zone, the Viewer enables secure role-based access to these external systems through an HTML Viewer that is integrated with the Enterprise Portal. Custom developed ETL Connectors have been built to interface with specific K-12 SIS systems including SASI-xp, QSS, and other third-party products.
School MATRIX Data Zone Reporter. By importing data from various external systems into a single Relational Data Base Management System, the School MATRIX Reporting Tool enables the development of custom built web-based reports. Vertical state reporting (e.g. CSIS Reports in California) is a perfect example of the usefulness of such a reporting tool.
